Add a Playroom for the Kids to Your Home

When you have small children in the home, they need a space where they can play and have a good time. The bedroom offers a good place for study, reading books and spending some quiet time alone but it can be cluttered and uncomfortable for play. Adding a playroom to your home would give your kids an excellent place to play together while helping to keep the rest of your home neat, clean and organized.

When working with your interior designer to determine where to place the additional room, you can go over the elements that you would like the room to have. Creating a kids playroom involves much more than just having good storage space for the toys, although that is very important.

Tips for Designing a Playroom for the Kids

When designing a playroom, it’s important to make sure you have enough square footage to accommodate all of the items you plan to put in the room and still give your kids plenty of room to move around comfortably. Therefore, one of the first things to consider is how large you want the room to be. Once that is decided, you can work together to determine how much storage space you need and where to place it in the room.

It’s important to create cabinets and other storage spaces low to the floor. This way, the kids can easily reach the toys when playing and it’ll be easy for them to clean up afterwards. If you plan to have an arts and crafts section, you’ll need to include a sink in the design for easy clean up when projects are finished. You also want plenty of natural and artificial lighting to help create a relaxing and inviting environment.

Decorating Tips

When decorating the playroom for kids you want to include a wide variety of educational toys that help kids to learn and grow. The furniture you choose should be kid friendly. For example, a hard plastic round table with chairs is sturdy but much safer for a kid’s playroom than a square or rectangle wood table would be. Beanbag chairs are also a good option for the playroom.

Place educational rugs on the floor to help provide a comfortable place to play and help them learn. Set up an area for arts and crafts and use a sensory table to help kids develop their problem solving, decision making and social skills. Use the walls for play and learning as well by adding a chalkboard to one wall for drawing and use another for creating pictures and words with removable stickers. A magnet board is also a good idea for helping kids learn numbers, the alphabet and eventually words.

Adding a playroom to your home has many benefits. It gives kids a wonderful place where they can go and play without worry. You know it’s a safe environment for them and they love having a special place where they can have fun inside. It helps to keep the rest of the house neat and clean and as your kids grow, you can change the décor to match their age and interests.Contact us to learn more about how we can help with this type of home decor and design.
