In part one, we discussed the different types of interior door styles that you could choose from. Now, it is time to talk about the types of door materials you can choose. You should marry the door material and style of door together to bring the look of your home and rooms in sync.
The first type of material you can choose is the solid wood door. These doors are a popular choice, but they are heavy in nature. The reason most homeowners choose this type of door material is because it is sturdy and will last for years to come.
The door itself looks nice and will provide your home with the luxury look and feel that you are going for.
The hollow core door is one that is made from a wooden frame and then the door itself is made from a plywood material or other type of cardboard material. These doors are not as sturdy as the above option, but they are light and easy to install.
Many homeowners choose this type of door because it is readily available and often precut to the size you need. The door itself is not soundproof and you can easily hear in between rooms.
The solid core door is the opposite of the hollow core and it provides a bit more durability than its predecessor. The door is made using a plywood exterior and the interior contains a wood fiber. These doors are a great option for those who want the look and feel of a wooden door, but do not want to have a wooden door in their home.
Unlike the solid wood doors, these doors are still easy to open and are not heavy in nature. The door itself provides a semi-sound barrier, so you cannot hear too much of what is going on in the other room.
Decorating Your Door
Once you have a door picked out, you will need to choose how you want to decorate it. Most homeowners do not want to leave the door plain in color, so they will opt to either paint it or stain it.
If you are looking for the right door for your home, you will need to consider both the material and style that you want. In addition, consider the type of door handle you are using as some are welcoming and others can be just plain awkward.
