Are You Committing These Decorating Fouls?

It is time for you to throw in the flag on the decorating fouls you may be making. When it comes to the interior of your home, you may find that you think one element is going to work within your home, but it does not and instead of replacing it with the correct element, you just simply leave it alone. This leads to a mish-mosh of décor and themes within a single room and it can be confusing to your guests when they come over.

Fortunately for you, many people do make the decorating fouls below and you are not alone. Below, we will go over some of the most commonly made design mistakes and how to avoid them.

Decorating Foul 1: Cheap Furniture

Cheap furniture may be tempting simply because of the price tag, but do not let it fool you. Your furniture is one place where you do not want to spare a couple bucks. You pay for the quality of the item and if you find a sectional for $100, then you can expect that sectional will not hold up over time and you may find the cushions ripping in just a month or two.

Cheap furniture will break and you will never feel comfortable sitting on it. In addition, your cheap furniture will make your guests feel uncomfortable. To combat this problem, simply choose quality or price and do not pay attention to the price tag. You should budget more money for your furniture than other aspects of the room itself.

Decorating Foul 2: Bad Choice in Paint Color

Ever walk into a room and wonder why in the heck it is the color it is? Well, your guests do the same when they walk into your home. Don’t make the mistake of simply choosing a color to paint the walls just because you like the color. You need to make sure the color matches your decorations and will look good in your home. For example, a dark color will not look good in a room where there is minimal light.

Decorating Foul 3: Multiple Focal Points

When decorating any room in your home, you need to decide on a SINGLE focal point. Having multiple focal points can confuse your guests and create a cluttered look within your room. When it comes to choosing a focal point, make sure it stands out and make sure the rest of the décor complements it and does not take away from it.

They say three strikes and you are out and guess what, if you have made the above three mistakes, it is time to start rethinking your home’s interior design. If you are looking for some design ideas, check out the hottest trends for 2016.
