bedroomYour bedroom is more than just a place to sleep. It doubles as a private sanctuary, reading room and so much more. At the end of the day, you need a place where you can feel relaxed and comfortable as you wind down for the night and a cozy bedroom creates the perfect mood for relaxing.

This is your private space where no one else in the home goes, so take advantage of it. Turn it into the bedroom you’ve always dreamed of having. With the tips and suggestions below, you can create a cozy bedroom that you’ll love spending time in.

Add a Fireplace

Nothing says cozy like a beautiful fireplace especially at night. The soft glow of the fire creates a tranquil ambiance that helps melt all the worries and cares away. Add two comfortable chairs facing the fireplace, an end table and reading lamp and you have the perfect retreat where you can curl up on those long winter nights.

If adding a wood burning fireplace in your bedroom is not an option, consider installing an electric fireplace. With many beautiful designs to choose from you can easily find one to suit your personal taste and decor.

Decorating Tips for a Cozy Bedroom

Your flooring, the color of the walls and the accessories you choose to decorate with all help to create a cozy bedroom. Consider these carefully. You want to avoid anything that clutters up your room because this will take away from the coziness and create chaos and stress.

Below are a few more decorating tips for creating a comfy bedroom:

  • Carpet adds warmth to the room and creates a comfortable environment
  • If you have hardwood floors, a large area rug will soften the look and make your bedroom cozier
  • Use dark curtains over your blinds to add softness to the room and block out the light
  • Match comforters and throw pillows to your curtains for a more unified look
  • Use a few special items scattered out for your wall decor instead of covering your walls with art
  • When painting, use light blue, green, gray or beige colors to create a peaceful environment
  • Place scented candles and plants around the room to help create warmth

When painting and choosing the colors for your bedding, curtains and so forth, pick something that you like personally instead of something you think you should use. Your bedroom decor should reflect your style and personality not that of someone else’s.

Create the Right Mood with Lighting

Before you can create the right mood, you need the right lighting. You hear all the time how lighting can make a difference in a room and it really can. Use a combination of overhead lighting, lamps and natural light to create different moods for different activities. This is an important part of your design elements.

If you only have a small window now, consider installing a large bay window to open up your bedroom. If you have the space, build a deck on the side of your bedroom and install sliding glass doors that open up onto it where you can step outside and enjoy the fresh air anytime you’re in the mood. Having a cozy bedroom will help you relax and enjoy your free time at home.
