Create a Nursery that Grows with Your Child

Decorating the nursery is a big part of getting the home ready for your new baby. It’s important to create a warm and safe environment for your infant but you should also keep in mind that she’ll grow up fast. Before long, she’ll begin crawling around and learning how to walk. Soon after that, you’ll have a toddler running around your home.

As your baby grows, she has different needs. She’ll begin telling you what she likes and don’t like and she’ll want more “big girl” things. The problem is that changing your décor every couple of years as your child grows is not practical and it can get very expensive but there is a solution.

When you create a nursery that grows with your child, you can transform it into a toddler room with just a few simple changes. For example, accessories such as curtains, rugs and even lamps will play a role in how the room looks and you can easily switch these items out for something more age appropriate later.

Use Wall Decals to Create a Nursery that Grows with Your Child

The walls are a big part of decorating a nursery. Painting the walls pink for a girl or blue for a boy is traditional but as your child grows, she may not like having a pink room. Using wallpaper with pictures of baby bottles, teddy bears, elephants and similar designs is also popular but if you go this route, expect to change it in a couple of years.

A simpler option would be to paint your walls a light pastel color and use wall decals to decorate. This way, you can change the decals to suit your child’s taste as she grows. You can start out with decals of cute little animals and then switch them out for letters and numbers or her favorite cartoon characters later. Wall decals make it easy to change the look of the room to match your child’s age without making major changes.

Choose Furniture that Will Last for Years

The main piece of furniture you’ll need in the nursery is the crib and there are many styles to choose from but one stands out from the rest. The convertible crib is an excellent option because when your baby outgrows the crib, it turns into a bed with a rail. Be sure to invest in a quality crib to ensure your child’s safety as she grows.

Now is also a good time to think about storage space. Choose a dresser with deep drawers and add shelves and other storage space to your interior design. As your baby grows, you’ll replace the diapers, baby blankets and other nursery items with toddler clothes, books and toys.
