Curtains or Blinds – Which is More Luxurious for Your Home?

When you are choosing your window designs for each room in your home, you may want to decide on either curtains or blinds.  When living in the warm Florida sun, you want to be able to shut out the heat on some days and allow it in on others.  This can be dependent upon the season or just on certain days of the week.  So which option offers you everything you want in window coverage while still remaining luxurious?  Below are the pros and cons of both types of windows coverings to allow you to make a more informed decision.

Window Blinds

Window blinds come in a wide variety of materials.  While most people know about the standard vertical and horizontal plastic blinds, very few know that you can purchase wood blinds that not also add window coverage, they are also stunning and luxurious.  Some of the pros and cons are as follows:

  • Pros – Blinds come in a wide variety of materials and colors to fit the décor of any room.  This means that you can get them in not only wood but you can have them covered in fabric to match your furniture or other pieces in the room.  Another bonus is that they can also be custom made for your individual windows so you don’t have to worry about ill fitting blinds.
  • Cons – Blinds can be bulky and if they run off track they can be a pain to have repaired.  Pets like to get into the blinds and can break off slats that make them look cheap even if you paid a great deal of money for the blinds.  It can also be dangerous for them if they get trapped in between the slats.

Window Curtains

Curtains are a long standing way to offer both sun protection and privacy for windows and have always been a home interior design favorite.  You can choose from lacy and frilly curtains to heavy sun blocking curtains.  The following are some of the pros and cons of this window covering choice.

  • Pros – Wide variety of colors, materials and patterns to choose from.  It is very easy to match the colors of the curtains with the colors of the room.  There are many different style designs for curtains from dramatic to simple.  Installation is easy and you can find curtains to fit just about any room in the home.
  • Cons – Curtains can easily stain and if they are a high quality and luxury material then they have to be dry cleaned which can be time consuming.  You’ll have to have a back up set of curtains to replace the ones that have been sent out for cleaning.  Pets can also destroy the material with their claws and the sun can bleach them out so they’ll have to be replaced more often than blinds.

The choice between blinds and curtains has been a long standing one for luxury residential interior design.  Some people skip the choice altogether and simply put curtains over the blinds and call it day!
