Features of a Modern Bathroom Design

When building or remodeling a home, many people don’t give the bathroom enough attention. The kitchen and living room usually gets first priority followed by the bedrooms and then the bathroom comes last. As a result, many homeowners end up with a poorly designed layout that crowds everything together. Paying a little more attention to your bathroom design in the beginning will ensure you’re happy with the results when the project is complete.

A modern design combines natural materials with geometric patterns to create a pleasing environment where you feel comfortable and relaxed. Wood, stone, glass and ceramic are some of the most popular materials used in modern bathrooms because they’re durable and they help create a clean, sleek look. However, before you pick out your flooring and accessories there are a few other important decisions to make.

Choose the Right Layout for Your Modern Bathroom Design

There are three main types of layouts to choose from when creating your modern bathroom design and you must focus on the plumbing when choosing a layout. The first and simplest layout places all of the water lines for the toilet, sink and tub or shower along one wall. However, it’s very limiting and you may feel like everything is crowded together.

If you like a little more flexibility, the two or three-wall layout would be a better option. The two-wall layout normally places the sink and toilet on one wall and the tub/shower on a different wall, while the three-wall layout has each one of these units on a separate wall.

Lighting Is a Major Bathroom Feature

Never underestimate the need for lighting in your bathroom. You need different types of lights in different areas of the room to ensure efficiency. For example, you need an overhead light that will illuminate the bathroom for general use and for cleaning purposes.

Another place where you need good lighting is around the mirror. These make it easy for you to see how to apply makeup, shave and take care of other personal hygiene needs. The placement of these lights is very important. The wrong position can create shadows and glare or they won’t provide enough lighting to be efficient. They can also shine in your eyes making it uncomfortable to use.

Our Miami interior designers can ensure proper placement of all lighting within the room. We can also help you choose the best tub/shower and other features to create a bathroom design that suits your needs and lifestyle the best.

Choosing Between A Tub and Walk-In Shower

Many modern bathrooms replace the tub with a walk-in shower. This is a great design choice for singles or couples without children, especially if you stay on the go most of the time because they are so convenient. However, if you have small children, a tub is a necessity but that doesn’t mean that you have to settle for a dull, boring style.

Lets us help you choose a tub style that serves your needs while making a powerful design statement. There are many options to choose from that include traditional styles, platform tubs, claw-and-ball feet and pedestal base styles.
