Whether you work at home part-time or full-time, it is nice to have your own office space to work in. As you begin to think about what you want your home office to look like, you should take the following home office design mistakes into consideration as well.
Avoiding these mistakes can help you stay comfortable in a beautiful and functional office space.
Mistake #1: Choosing bad lighting.
Even though lighting may be on the bottom of your list, you should never forget about it. The lighting in your home office can help keep you focused and productive throughout the day.
If you have windows, you should allow the natural light to flow in. If your window does not face a neighbor or the road, you could choose to leave it open without any curtains. Otherwise, a nice pair of sheer curtains will do the trick too.
Mistake #2: Forgetting about ergonomics.
One of the biggest mistakes you can make when designing your home office is to forget to take ergonomics into consideration. Your health is paramount even when you are working from an office space in your home.
You need to take a look at different seats, keyboards, and mice to ensure your comfort and safety while you work every day. Find out how a good office design can promote your health.
Mistake #3: Running out of space too quickly.
When you start to design your home office, have a realistic expectation of the space you are working with. Most home offices need to have filing cabinets and storage space to hold important paperwork. Make sure that you adjust for at least one cabinet, if not two.
Mistake #4: Choosing the wrong colors.
Choosing the wrong color scheme in your office can cause you to become distracted throughout the day. You should avoid colors that are too bright or too dark and stick with something that is soft on the eyes, but lightens the room at the same time.
Mistake #5: Leaving artwork off the wall.
To help add a nice touch to your home office, hang a picture or two on the wall. You do not want the picture to be the focal point of your office, but you want it to complement your color scheme and décor.
