Painting The WallThe color of your walls will have a dramatic effect on the overall atmosphere of a room, so you want to choose your colors wisely. Painting your walls is a very popular option that many homeowners choose but it’s not your only option. You can also transform your walls to match your decor with wallpaper. Many people overlook this option because they think wallpaper is outdated but there are many new modern designs available.

Both are great options that come in a wide variety of patterns and colors and both can create illusions making the room look bigger or smaller depending on which color or patterns you use. So which one should you choose, paint or wallpaper? The following tips can help you decide.

The Room You’re Decorating Determines Which to Use, Paint or Wallpaper

The room you’re decorating will be a major factor in deciding whether to paint your walls or to use wallpaper. For example, paint is usually a better choice for bathrooms and kitchens due to the steam from showers and cooking. The high humidity will loosen the wallpaper causing it to peel, making it necessary to replace it more often than you should have to. The humidity won’t affect paint, so it’s usually a better choice for these rooms.

However, wallpaper works great in bedrooms, living rooms and dining rooms. If you have small kids in the home, then you have the option of using vinyl wallpaper. Dirt, food and crayons will easily wash off, so you don’t have to worry about replacing the wallpaper if the kids get a little rowdy.

It can be difficult making a choice between painting your walls and using wallpaper but a qualified Florida interior designer like our experts here a J. Design Group, can help you decide which one is best suited for your home. We offer a wide range of other services, too so don’t hesitate to call for more information on how we can help you.

How Often Do You Change Your Design?

Another thing to look at is how often you change things around. If you get bored with your decor easily, then painting your walls would be a better option. You can paint overtop of paint, so it’s faster and easier to change the look of your room. However, changing wallpaper is not so easy. You’ll have to remove the wallpaper and clean the walls to get rid of any sticky residue that’s left before you can repaper or repaint the walls.

It’s also easier to fix small scratches and other blemishes when you use paint because you can simply paint over that one area and you’re done. If a part of the wallpaper is damaged, you’ll need to remove the whole section, clean the wall and then replace it with the new section. Another thing to consider is that you’ll need to repaint every few years where wallpaper can last for ten to fifteen years.

With all of the color and design options available, it’s easy to find something to match a specific theme with both paint and wallpaper, so both allows you the freedom to be as creative as you want. For this reason, considering the room you’re decorating and how often you plan to redecorate will help you make the best choice between the two.
