The bathroom is the smallest and most used room in your home so it’s not surprising that it requires a lot of attention. The overall design of the bathroom affects everything from functionality to cleanliness, which is why many homeowners look forward to making renovations. It’s easy to imagine how you would like to make your bathroom look but much harder to actually create a design that works.
Start with a detailed plan that includes everything you want to change and include the following three tips for renovating a bathroom in your design for results you’re sure to love.
The layout of the bathroom is the most important part of your renovations because it will have a major impact on the overall design. You have to know exactly where you plan to place the tub, shower and commode so the plumbers can do their job. Once the renovations begin and the plumbing is in place, it will be very expensive and time consuming to make changes. Therefore, it’s to your advantage to go over the layout several times to make sure you are happy with it before beginning the project.
Our Miami interior designers use computer aided design software or CAD to help you see exactly what your layout and the overall design will look like once completed. This gives you a chance to try different layouts to see which one will suit your family the best. You can even see what different wall color and flooring will look like so it takes all of the guesswork out of the design.
In addition to finding the right design that suits both your needs and personal taste, you must also comply with building codes and regulations to ensure the renovations will pass inspection. Here at J. Design Group, our interior design services include selecting qualified contractors and plumbers that will do the job right the first time. This way, you can avoid having to make costly changes later.
Bathroom hardware and accessories dress up the room. They give it personality and pizzazz so think about the type of atmosphere you want to create when picking out the faucets, showerhead, door handles, mirrors, wall art and similar items. The type of flooring you choose will also dramatically affect the overall look of the room so choose a design that enhances the décor but that is also durable, mold and slip resistant.
Having enough storage space in the bathroom is a little tricky because you are working with such limited space. Using vertical shelving along one wall or along both sides of the mirror over the sink is an excellent and stylish way to add storage space. For those items you want to keep out of sight, you can install a recessed medicine cabinet and/or a bathroom vanity with drawers. A linen closet also makes a great addition to any bathroom if you have the space.
